I very much wanted to visit friends who live at Þingeyri, a small town on Dýrafjörður in the West Fjords. My friends discouraged me from trying to drive there from Reykjavík, saying the one could never depend on the weather. Instead, I flew on a commercial flight. Driving might have been easier. The weather prevented the airplane from landing as scheduled in Ísafjörður, so we were diverted to the tiny airstrip at Þingeyri. It was an inconvenience for most of the passengers, but perfect for me. My friend was waiting for me at the Þingeyri airport.
