Þríhyrningur (three-horned) is a mountain with a distinctive shape in the south of Iceland. The mountain features prominently in Brennu-Njáls saga, so I wanted to photograph some of the saga sites near the mountain in winter. The distinctive shape of the mountain made it a useful landmark to travelers through much of Iceland's history. It can be seen over large parts of the south, both along the coast and in the interior, allowing travelers before the days of maps and compasses (and GPS devices) to know where they were. |
