Egils saga says that Kveld-Úlfr and his son Skalla-Grímr left Norway to settle in Iceland. During the voyage, Kveld-Úlfr became ill and died. Before he died, he told his son to put his body in a coffin and toss it overboard. Kveld-Úlfr said that his son should settle in the same place as Kveld-Úlfr chose to settle. Where the coffin washed ashore is where Skalla-Grímr should make his land claim. The coffin was found in Borgrafjörður, and Skalla-Grímr built his farm on the creek closest to where his father's coffin had come to shore.
