Ísland 2006: Djúpavík

Djúpavík in Reykjarfjörður is the site of an abandoned herring processing plant, which operated from the 1930s to the 1950s, when the herring stock collapsed. The abandoned ship beached next to the factory was used to house temporary workers at the plant. Other workers' quarters at the Djúpavík plant have been converted into a charming hotel, and they are considerably more comfortable than the quarters shown here. Back |
