It was well past midnight when I returned to my guesthouse on the other side of Dýrafjörður from Haukadalur. Clouds had formed in Haukadalur and the other valleys below the mountain peaks.

The mountainous region on the opposite side of the fjord is called the Westfjord Alps. Unlike other mountains in the West Fjords (which have flat tops), these mountain ranges have craggy peaks more like those found in the Alps.
