Hveradalir are a group of geothermal valleys in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains, and walking to Hveradalir was one of the most fantastic short hikes I've ever taken. The landscape was other-worldly, and could have been the surface of Mars. Despite the calendar showing July, a blizzard caused near white-out conditions at times.

In the past, there was a ski facility at Kerlingarfjöll, despite the fact that it is accessible only in summer.
