An abandoned farm building stands near the Fossálar river in south Iceland. Mist and rain blow down from the highlands above the farm.

The weather on this visit was worse than usual, even for Iceland. There were many days of rain, mist, and clouds, like the one on which this photo was shot. One of my Icelandic hostesses said she didn't think summer would every come this year.

The higher than normal rainfall also meant that rivers were running higher and faster than normal. As a result, my little 4x4 rental car was unable to ford some of the river crossings in the interior that I planned to cross.
