Ísland 2005: Langjökull

It's an short drive from the Kaldidalur route up to the edge of the Langjökull glacier. I had forgotten I had been there before on a previous visit. The base camp and its buildings were familiar, but the glacier had retreated so much that little else was familiar.

It is in places like this that one can see how quickly the glaciers are retreating in Iceland. The photo was taken near the edge of the glacier, looking across to Hafrafell, the mountain that bounds this portion of the glacier.
