Vígabjarg is a rock outcrop overlooking the Jökulsá river, a powerful glacial river about 30m (100ft) below the outcrop.

The saga hero Grettir had a hideout in a cave on the side of the outcrop away from the river. It is said that he jumped the Vígabjargsfoss waterfall adjacent to the outcrop. Changes in the landscape in the intervening years have changed the flow of the falls, so it's hard to judge how difficult the feat might have been.
